The Solid State Logic B-DYN 500 series module is a modern reiteration of the iconic dynamics processor found in the SL 4000 B console, Solid State Logic's first-ever console released in 1976. This module encapsulates the vintage SSL sound that shaped countless classic records, offering a unique sonic signature distinct from later SSL series.

Unique Design:

The B-DYN 500 is based on the original SL 4000 B's dynamics section, which utilized the fader VCA as its gain element. This feedback design is inherited by the B-DYN, offering a characterful and colored compression that sets it apart from other SSL modules. The 'Auto' release setting provides a program-dependent release time, similar to the SSL Bus Compressor.

Compressor/Limiter Features:

• RATIO: Offers stepped compression ratios of 2:1, 4:1, and 10:1, along with a 'ds' setting optimized for de-essing.
• THRESH: Activates the compressor when the signal exceeds a set level, also providing automatic make-up gain.
• HPF: Includes a 6dB/Oct 185 Hz High Pass Filter in the sidechain to minimize bass pumping effects.
